Parents Guide to the IYL Website - 2010 Season Info Central
by posted 02/11/2010

Parents & Players - here is what you need to get started using your IYL website, your information resource for the 2010 Lacrosse season.

The IYL website is the communication hub for all league information, game & practice schedules, critical event updates, as well as general regional lacrosse news.  The website will send out automatic reminders of all games & practices and will automatically notify you of any changes to your players schedule.  Key to having this information at your fingertips is your membership contact information.

Step One: Update your membership information.  Make sure all adults responsible for your players schedule and  transportation are listed and have email addresses & phone numbers updated.  Log in using the "Edit My Account" tab under "IYL"  on the main menu bar or Click Here.  You will need the eMail address and password you used to register.

Tip: if you need help at any point, look for the little blue & white question mark buttons.

Your Team Page:  Every IYL team has a team page that is managed by the coaches and managers of your team.  On it you will find Team Headlines, Team Bulletins from your Coaches and team Managers, your Coaches contact information, and a listing of your team's next 10 events.  To find your players team page click on the "Team" tab on the main menu bar.  You will then have the option to use a drop-down menu bar to select the "Season" (should be "2010 - Spring"), select your players "IYL" Division (Girls/Boys, Senior, Junior, Lightning), and your players "Team" (Blue, White, Navy, etc).  Your players Team Page should display.

Tip: if "team" choices do not appear in the drop-down menu this may be due to cookie handling - try changing the "IYL" division setting once, then try "Team" again.  If that does not work, click the ? button for help.

Your Team Key Contacts:  You will find your teams key contacts on the team page.  This will display all of the information your Coach, Team Manager & Team Parents have made visible using the "Roster" setting on their membership page including eMail address & phone number.

Tip: If no key contact information is present yet, it is because the coaches & team volunteers are still updating their membership info and changing their contact settings from "Private"  to "Roster".  You can also remind your Coach that the team contact page needs updating.

Your Next 10 Events:  Look here for upcoming practices and games. Click the "Date" for detailed information and click the "Event/Field" for field information and a link to a map.  Practice information will typically be displayed for 3-4 weeks out and Games for 4-6 weeks out.  If there are changes, updates or additions the website will automatically notify you by eMail at the addresses you have in your membership profile.  Remember:  to not rely on the automatic updates to manage your players lacrosse experience - check this website and your team page often!

Tip: Practice & game schedules are still being loaded and team contact information is still being updated.  Please be patient as we continue our transition to this new league management system & IYL website.

Schedules:  Player practice & game schedules can be found in several ways.  You will always be able to find the latest info for your team on the team page's "Next 10 Events" list; but that is not the only resource.  There is the IYL "Master Schedule" which can be found under the "IYL" tab on the main menu bar.  This will have all the updated information on practices, games, clinics, optional throw-arounds.  From the Master Schedule you can click on the Field to get directions & a map or the Team Name to jump to the Team Page.  Lastly, you can also select "Schedules" by team under the "Team" tab on the top menu bar.

Events:  There are always a ton of great Lacrosse activity in our region ranging from Boys & Girls Varsity, Junior Varsity & C  High School Games, special exhibition games between regional college powers and our own Washington Stealth professional indoor lacrosse to attend.  You can get the latest Event info from the "Events Calendar" found under the "IYL" tab on the top menu bar or in the Upcoming Events box on the IYL Homepage (Right column).

Game Results & Standings:  These pages will populate with information once the regular season begins.  Both can be found under the "Team" tab on the top menu bar.

League Information:  You can find the answers to almost every question in the IYL FAQ found under the "IYL" tab on the main menu bar.

Lacrosse Information:  There is a lot of cool info for new players and "inquiring minds" in the "Lacrosse Basics" section found under the "IYL"  tab on the top menu bar.

League Documents:  You can find a ton of League forms, general Lacrosse information, and helpful resources in the "Documents" section found under the "IYL" tab.  You will also find your player's single most important key to having a successful season here:  "Wall Drills - the Essential Guide" - download, print and take your player to the nearest wall!

Still have Questions?   You always have - but remember - please try self-service first!  We are a small volunteer organization and the more you can discover for yourself the more time we have to do more for you!

IYL Equipment Exchange Live for 2010 Season
by posted 11/13/2009

Gear bag overflowing?  Now is the time to sort through all the LAX gear that has been piling up in the garage and start planning for the 2010 regular season.  Chances are you have items that your player has outgrown or is planning to upgrade that are still is great condition.  Here is a "recycling" solution that can benefit our local Lacrosse community and make it easier for more kids to get into the game:  The IYL Exchange is now live!

You can now list all that great gear and get it back on the field with the next generation of local Laxers while collecting a few dollars to apply on your players new gear.  Your listing is free on the IYL Exchange and the exchange is between you and the hopeful new owner.  IYL does not take a fee of any kind.  We all recognize the costs that are part of raising active multi-sport kids in today's challenging economic times and the Exchange is all about our helping each other and our sporting community.

Concussion Awareness & Resources
by posted 07/15/2009

On July 26th, 2009 Washington State House Bill 1824 – also known as the Zackery Lystedt Law – went into effect.  As a result youth sports organizations state-wide are focusing attention and educational resources on the risk of  head injuries. This law directly affects Issaquah Youth Lacrosse, IYL head injury policies and our 2010 player registration processes.

All Washington lacrosse clubs and associations must now follow all steps outlined below to ensure they are compliant with the law.  The two requirements that directly affect our upcoming 2010 registration processes include:

  • Annually require all players and the parent(s)/guardian(s) of those players to sign and return an informed consent form (IYL Parent-Athlete Concussion Awareness Form) relating to the nature and risk of concussion or head injury. This information sheet shall include the signs and symptoms of concussion/brain injury and will be available during IYL registration.
  • Ensuring that all coaches (paid or volunteer) are educated in the nature and risk of concussion or head injury prior to the first practice/competition. This education shall include signs and symptoms of concussion/brain injury. Resources for this education are available in both English and Spanish in the Documents section on this site.
As an IYL parent or athlete, the information resources on head injuries we are providing on this site [IYL>Documents] are important to review and understand.  Please read the IYL Head Injury Guidelines and Procedures document in addition to the player and parent information guides.  The new registration procedures coming into effect for our 2010 season are an important part of this effort.  The risks of concussion or other brain injury have not suddenly increased but  youth sports organizations, medical professionals and government policy-makers are making brain injury awareness and education a top priority for good reason.  As parents we invest a lot into our young athletes and as athletes we invest a lot into our sports - knowing the symptoms of sports and recreation related brain injury is an important part of that investment.

So dedicate 10 minutes to reviewing the Parents and Athletes Concussion Fact-sheets, print them out and tape on the fridge....
